“art*science” – questo I° Anno dedicata a Leonardo “The next fifty”, la più autorevole rivista, pubblicata da MIT Press, sulle relazioni tra arte e scienza, che compie 50 anni – consiste in un convegno ed eventi sulle relazioni tra forme artistiche e discipline scientifiche. Questo primo appuntamento a Bologna ha come tema “Il Nuovo e la Storia”, cioè la relazione tra due concetti apparentemente in opposizione che invece possono e devono convivere. Il “nuovo”, l’“innovazione”, ha le sue fondamenta nella storia, nel passato, ma può e deve rilanciare questa eredità nel futuro, riattualizzarla, rifunzionalizzarla, mediante le discipline scientifiche e le tecnologie. Siamo convinti che questo possa costituire un elemento fondamentale in un Paese come il nostro che possiede un enorme patrimonio culturale.
Oltre a questi due temi, Roger Malina, direttore di Leonardo, ne ha indicato un terzo, su cui è in corso a livello internazionale una discussione, in parte anche nella mailing list Yasmin: la ricerca dell’integrazione delle arti, del design e delle humanities nelle discipline scientifiche. Questa discussione, spesso chiamata “From STEM to STEAM” (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, and Mathematics), poggia sull’idea di “consilience” (convergenza), introdotta da Wilson nel 1968, sulla fusione dei modi di conoscenza, ed è stata ripresa da Slingerland e Collard nel 2011.
Oltre che l’intervento dello staff dirigenziale di Leonardo, la parte convegnistica di “art*science”, della durata di due giorni, vedrà la partecipazione di istituzioni e studiosi, scienziati, artisti, operatori sugli argomenti sopra enunciati.
“art*science” costituirà anche l’occasione di incontro e confronto tra i partecipanti alla mailing list Yasmin, supportata da UNESCO, da Leonardo e da Noema, sulle relazioni tra arte e scienza, che vede la partecipazione di studiosi, artisti, scienziati, docenti e operatori del bacino del Mediterraneo. Gli argomenti di “art*science” saranno introdotti e lanciati con una discussione internazionale su Yasmin qualche giorno prima dell’inizio della manifestazione, discussione che accompagnerà tutta la durata del convegno.
“art*science – in this first year dedicated to Leonardo “The next fifty,” the most authoritative magazine published by MIT Press, which is 50, on relationship between art and science – consists of a series of conferences and events on relations between artistic forms and scientific disciplines. This first event in Bologna has the theme of “The New and the History”, that is, the relationship between two seemingly oppositional concepts that can and must live together. The “new”, the “innovation”, has its foundations in history, in the past, but can and must revive this legacy in the future, re-invent it, and refocus it through scientific disciplines and technologies. We think that this can be a key element in a country like Italy with a huge cultural heritage.
In addition to these two themes, Roger Malina, Director of Leonardo, has pointed to a third topic, which is debating internationally, partly also in the Yasmin mailing list: the search for the integration of arts, design and Humanities in the scientific disciplines. This discussion, often referred to as “From STEM to STEAM” (STEM = Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics; STEAM = Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Design, and Mathematics), rests on the idea of “consilience”, introduced by Wilson in 1968, on the fusion of the modes of knowledge, and it was taken up by Slingerland and Collard in 2011.
